A brief introduction to
Three-card Poker
Three-card poker is one of the most popular casino table games, not just because it is exciting, but for its simplicity and fast pace dynamic. It consists of the stud poker but played with a 52-card deck, just like combining two casino games in one. With a handful of betting options and strategies, you can win based on how good your cards are. However, many people can still feel a little reluctant to engage in it. Therefore, in this article we will explain in detail why it is so popular.
Basic rules of the
Three-card Poker
Three-card poker is played as a face-off between the player’s hand and the dealer’s hand. The first bets are placed in a box marked “Ante” to express the intention to participate. An additional wager called ‘Pair Plus’ can also be placed when players are confident in their hands.
Then, players and the dealer received 3 face-down cards each. After checking them, participants must decide if their cards are good enough. If so, they must place their cards down on the “Play” box and over them a wager that is equal to or higher than the one placed in “Ante”. Otherwise, they fold and forfeit the Ante bet. Meanwhile, the dealer must always show their cards. However, a ‘Queen-high’ or better hand is required for them to qualify.
Once all bets are placed, each player’s hand is compared with the dealer’s and the following results are possible:
- The dealer fails too qualify. In this case, players win even money on the Ante bet while the Play wager is returned.
- The dealer fails to qualify but player made a “Pair Plus” bet and they hand is indeed higher than that. In such cases, the wager is still paid.
- The dealer qualifies with a better poker hand than the player. In those cases, the Ante and Play bets are lost.
- The dealer qualifies but hand ties with the player’s. Then, bets are pushed.
- The dealer qualifies but the player holds a better poker hand. It means both wagers are paid 1:1.
